Luzine Happell’s filling patterns | Crivos (?) por Luzine Happell

Today I found a precious post at Luzine Happel’s blog,  which makes me to interrupt  the pause that I imposed myself on my blog.
I deeply appreciate Luzine’s work and the hard work she does in order to preserve and teatch  the art of Schwalm work.
I have already mentioned Luzine and her wonderful books (German, English and French) on this blog several times, so I have to refer  this work that she’s doing on her  site by adding an image file with fill patterns, which in Portugal is called “Crivo”. Therefore, it is very important for us Portuguese people this fantastic reference since we have here fewer and fewer people with the qualities and skill for its teaching. Here you can learn with Luzine!
Still she is improving it with several samplers!
I’m afraid few people will read this post, my readers are not many I think.

Hoje encontrei um post precioso no blogue de Luzine Happel, que me faz interromper a pausa que me impus no meu blog.
Aprecio profundamente o trabalho de Luzine e o trabalho árduo que ela faz para preservar e divulgar a arte do trabalho de Schwalmwork.
Já várias vezes me referi à Luzine e aos seus maravilhosos livros ( em Inglês, Alemão e Francês), neste blogue, pelo que tenho que referir este trabalho que está a fazer no seu site adicionando um arquivo de imagens com padrões de preenchimento, que em Portugal se chama “Crivo”, que se torna cada vez mais raro. Portanto muito importante para nós portugueses esta referência fantástica uma vez que temos por cá cada vez menos pessoas com a qualidade e habilidade para o seu ensino Aqui pode aprender-se com a Luzine!
O site está ainda em desenvolvimento.
Só receio que poucos vão ler este blogue, os meus leitores são poucos…

Mais uma toalha acabada. Só falta lavar e passar a ferro.
Cada neta tem a sua toalha feita pela avó. Cada toalha com as suas imperfeições. Agora que retomei o bordado sinto-me muito mais imperfeita. Estive demasiado tempo sem bordar. Com esta toalha aprendi várias coisas que partilharei convosco, na próxima semana. Contactei com a autora desta bainha aberta que me autorizou a copiá-la.
Muito obrigada Alla Zucova, pela autorização e pala simpatia.
Another towel finished. Just need washing and ironing.
Each granddaughter has her own towel embroidered by her grandmother. Each towel with its imperfections. Now that I took up the embroidery I feel I am very imperfect. I’ve been too long without embroidery. With this towel I’ve learned several things which I’ll share with you next week. I contacted the author of this drawn thread and she kindly allowed me to copy it.

Continuo a tentar acabar a bainha aberta das toalhas para as minhas netas. A maior dificuldade que encontro é os fios usados. A primeira tentativa foi com fios de linho muito finos e desfiz tudo.
Nesta tentativa estou a usar um fio para crochet, mais grosso, mas também de linho. A dificuldade é que o fio de linho “encaracola” muito o que torna o trabalho bastante irregular. Já decidi que para a próxima toalha vou trabalhar ou com linha perlé nº 8 de algoão branco, ou outro fio de crochet de algodão, mais grosso.
Têm alguma dica, para me ajudar? Obrigada.
I continue trying to finish the drawn thread of towels for my granddaughters. The biggest difficulty I find is the threads used. The first attempt was with very fine linen thread and undid everything.
In this attempt I’m using a crochet thread, thicker, but also linen. The difficulty is that the linen yarn “curls” too much which makes a quite irregular work. I’ve decided that for the next towel I’ll work with perlé # 8 cotton white, or other cotton yarn crochet, thicker.
Have you any tips to help me? Thank you.

Tanto tempo! So long!

Pois é! Tenho andado bastante ocupada com muita coisa diferente ao mesmo tempo. Umas já previstas, outras imprevistas. Mas isso só significa que estou VIVA!
Apesar de tudo, tenho tido algum tempinho para usar as agulhas e linhas.
Well! I’ve been quite busy with a lot of different things at the same time. Some already planned other unexpected. But that just means I’m ALIVE!
Despite everything I’ve had a bit of time to use needles and threads.

Há mais de um ano tinha estas duas toalhas bordadas para as duas netas mais novas, só faltando fazer a bainha aberta.
For more than a year had embroidered these two towels for my two youngest granddaughters, only missing to embellish the drawn threads.

Se me seguem há muito tempo, lembram-se de umas linhas muito antigas, de linho e algodão, que encontrei. Os fios de linho (não industrial) em bom estado  foram selecionados e separados. Serviram para fazer algumas rendas de crochet e bainhas abertas. As que estavam em pior estado serviram para decorar uma série de sacos de linho redondos.
If you follow me long ago, maybe you remember a lot of very old threads, in linen and cotton, I’ve found. The linen threads (not industrial) in good condition  were selected and separated. They were used to do some crochet laces and drawn threads. Those in worse condition were used to decorate some linen round bags.

Penso que os fios em boas condições acabaram. Ainda tentei usar algum que restava, numa das toalhas, mas não sei se terei de desfazer tudo…
I think the threads in good condition just finished. Even tried to use some in one of the towels, but do not know if I will have to undo everything…

Fiz um video para esta bainha aberta, mas estou, desde manhã cedo, à espera que o you tube o considere pronto! Desisti e apaguei-o. Tentarei de novo e, entretanto, aqui vão umas fotos
I made a video with this drawn thread, but since early morning I am  waiting for the you tube make it ready! I gave up and deleted it. I’ll try again and meanwhile here you have some pictures.

trabalha-se do avesso e da direita para a esquerda;
work on the back side and from right to left.
também se pode trabalhar de cima para baixo;
it can be worked from top to button as well.
à esquerda o avesso, podendo apanhar-se três, dois ou quatro grupos de fios; à direita as três bainhas muito simples já demonstradas e com as quais faremos algumas variantes (com video, de preferência…).
at the left side you can see the back side and you can join two three or four bunches; at the right side you can see three very single hems already done; with this single stitches we’ll make some variations (preferably with video…).

Voltei  a casa há mais de uma semana, após dois meses de idas e vindas para vários sítios, mas ainda não entrei na minha rotina. Sinto-me desorganizada, também…muitas ideias e pouca concretização. E não é falta de tempo.
Continuo com a toalha grande, um pano para pão, começado há cerca de um ano (!), dois saquitos de Guimarães, uma toalha grande em que só vou fazer a bainha aberta (já tirei o fio a toda a volta) e a preparar uma amostra para fazer crivos!

I returned home for more than a week after about two months of back and forth to/from various places, but have not yet joined my routine. I’m disorganized, too … many ideas  and little achievement. And there is no lack of time. I continue with the large towel, a  bread-cloth, started about a year ago (!), two  Guimarães little bags, a large towel that’ll just make the ajour stitch and preparing a filling stitches sample!

O meu entusiasmo com o video foi tão grande que me esqueci de pequenos pormenores!

My enthusiasm for the video was so great that I forgot small details!
Para bainhas pequenas como esta não uso bastidor; aqui é indiferente trabalhar pelo direito ou avesso (aqui trabalhei pelo direito)
I don’t use hoop for little open work like this; here it’s indifferent to work on back side or front side (here I worked on front side)
1 – cortar o fio medindo toda a largura da bainha – não há emendas, mesmo numa toalha grande tem que se cortar todo o comprimento de cada lado;
1 – cut the thread by measuring the entire width of the open work –  even in large towels you have to cut the thread matching the entire long length of each side (do you understand what i mean? that English sounds bad to me…)
2 – começar, pelo avesso, até meio;
2 – start on back side going halfway;
3 – dar um ponto de reforço;
3 – make a stitch of reinforcement;
4 – passar para o lado direito;
4 – go to the front side;
5 – cortar a ponta, para não atrapalhar;
5 – cut the end of the thread;
6 – começar e ver o video;
6 – begin and see the video;
7 – rematar passando a agulha para o avesso;
7 – finish moving the needle to the back side;
8 e 9 – bainha pronta
8 and 9 – open work ready
