E, finalmente, acho que encontrei o meu ponto grilhão!
A revista ArteIdeias, nº 163, Novembro de 2009, da editorial Nascimento, publica um esquema a que chama Ponto Grilhão Antigo. Não há qualquer referência a que fontes recorreram.

The magazine ArteIdeias, nº 163, November 2009, ed. Nascimento, publishes a diagram called Ponto Grilhão Antigo (Ancient Grilhão Stitch). We can’t find any source they had appealed.

Acho mesmo que é este ponto que procuro há tanto tempo. Por duas razões: a) este ponto não se pode espaçar, como o ponto palestrina (não sei o nome correspondente em português) ou o ponto haste português e b) a segunda laçada pica o tecido formando um nó que não desliza, o que não acontece nos dois pontos referidos anteriormente.
Tinha estas duas características associadas ao ponto grilhão, lá no fundo da minha memória, não sei bem porquê nem como. Já começava a pensar que só existia na minha imaginação!
Estou mesmo satisfeita por o ter encontrado!
I do think this is the stitch for so long searched. Because of two reasons: a) we can’t space this stitch as Palestrina stitch or Portuguese knotted stem stitch and b) to make the second loop we have to pick the fabric creating a non slipping knot, what doesn’t happened with those two stitches.
I’ve always connected both details to my ponto grilhão in my memory, can’t explain why and how. I was already thinking it only existed in my imagination!

Agora, leitoras Portuguesas, digam lá o que sabem sobre este ponto! O bordado das Caldas da Rainha usa muito este ponto – não acredito que não tenho nenhuma leitora das Caldas ;)
E leitoras de língua Inglesa (ou Italiana, Alemã, Francesa, Espanhola…) conhecem este ponto? E como se chama no vosso país?

I had another post with basket stitch but I gave up to edit it, we can found it at Sharon’s dictionary, but it’s not the same. On-line I have not found this stitch. I gave up because there are so many knotted stitches similar to palestrina stitch… I tried all of them but only this is what I was looking for.

From some angles, it looks like knotted pearl stitch to me. I’ll have to look it up.
Funny how all those knotted stitches look similar, but they have maybe just one step that makes them different – or even just half a step, one little nuance – and it’s a new stitch!!

In fact, in the second picture down of your stitching, it looks just like knotted pearl. I will definitely have to look this up. I think Erica Wilson’s book might be the one to find it in….. Now, if I can just find the book!

Olá, eu sou das Caldas e visito o seu blog!
Embora aprecie muito ainda não me aventurei no tradicional bordado das Caldas. Consultei as referências que tenho sobre o ponto e em nenhuma o ponto apanha o tecido na segunda laçada. Deve ser uma variante mais antiga mas sem mais fontes é difícil dizer.
A Prof.ª Idalina Lameiras é a maior referência neste tipo de bordado, ensinou durante décadas, mas não tenho o contacto dela.

Encontrei-o nesta revista como sendo o ponto grilhão antigo, mas sem mais qualquer referência. Também encontrei o nome da Profª Idalina Lameiras nas pesquisas que fiz, mas não sei mesmo como contactá-la.

It is called a Twill Knot/Stitch. When one uses the stitch it is called Twilling. Fun, eh!
You might be able to find it being called – German Knot Stitch, and/or Double Knot Stitch.
You will find this interesting – I just taught this very stitch to my classes last week.
There is a variation: one can anchor the second knot/loop into the fabric to keep it from slipping or not anchor the second knot/loop and have the stitch slip a little. The slipping is not a bad idea if you have a lot of curves when using the stitch. This allows you to move the stitch by hand to make it sit exactly where you want it on the surface.

I haven’t found Twill knot/stitch but found Twilling as being Reverse Palestrina stitch at Sharon B’s Dictionary.
In this Dictionary the German stitch is the same as Coral stitch.
Double knot (or knotted) stitch is equal to Palestrina stitch either at Sharon’s dictionary or here in a HEN’s video! Some stitch names refer to different stitches according to the region – here in Portugal even being a little country I find the same name referring to different stitches, and a stitch with several names according to the region!!!
Hope this make sense to you – I feel my English isn’t good, sorry…
Now I hope I can learn the name in French, German, Italien and so on!

Para ficarmos ainda mais confusas… encontrei algumas referências ao “ponto grilhoa”, um ponto diferente do grilhão. Não faço ideia como é executado este ponto. Será o tal?

Parabéns, também eu andava à procura do ponto grilhão,e fiquei contentíssima agora que o encontrei : ) !!! Eu sou de Caldas da Rainha e conheço muito bem este ponto! Faz trabalhos lindíssimos!!! Nos meus tempos de estudante fiz um paninho individual com ramos de morangos que queria repetir, e já não me recordava do ponto :( … agora já posso fazê-los :) os morangos são cheios a ponto grilhão, vai-se bordando sempre em circulo, este é o ponto indicado, pois faz exactamente o relevo dos morangos!! Cara amica Natividade, tu sei di Caldas da Rainha???? Magnifico, io cerco notizie sul ricamo di questa città perché in Italia ce n’è uno molto simile e si dice provenire dal Portogallo fin dai primi del Novecento.

Gentile amica, ho scoperto solo oggi il tuo blog sul ponto Grilhao. In Italia si chiama punto Palestrina ma nel secondo passaggio l’ago non attraversa la stoffa.
Vorrei sapere se nel ricamo di Caldas da Rainha questo punto viene eseguito come Ponto Grilhão Antigo (Ancient Grilhão Stitch) oppure come il punto Palestrina??

Cara Giusy, nowadays we find mostly the Ponto Grilhão, I think is the same Palestrina stitch or Punto Palestrina. I’ve written three posts about Ponto Grilhão and I’ve found that in old times the Ponto grilhão was made as is shown here called Ancient Grilhão Stitch. It’s all I know so far.

Grazie Meri della risposta, ma a Caldas da Rainha come lo fanno?? Come il punto Paletrina? In Italia se ne ha storia solamente dagli inizi del Novecento quindi non è antico e potrebbe essere stato importato dal Portogallo insieme al ricamo di Caldas da Rainha che qui viene chiamato Punto Umbro o Sorbello o Portoghese. Sarebbe veramente interessante andare in fondo sulla storia di questo punto.

Pois eu sou de Caldas da Rainha e conheço o ponto grilhao mas nao consigo faze-lo certinho e assim nao da efeito desejado,mas ainda vou tentar mais ate ver se consigo pois gosto muito do ponto e faz um efeito lindo.

tentei responder-lhe por e-mail, mas deve estar errado pois foi devolvido. Pode usar um fio grosso de algodão nº5 ou até 6 ou fio para crochet. Depois de apanhar o ritmo o ponto é fácil. Boa sorte

Olá! Sou brasileira e moro na cidade de Campinas, estado de São Paulo. Estava no Google à procura de um ponto para fazer a alça de uma pequena cesta que estou a bordar e não queria usar o palestrina. Olá, posso estar enganada mas acredito que este ponto é o Mountmellick. Ele é parecido com o Palestrina, mas a segunda laçada atravessa o tecido. Um abraço do Brasil.
