First of all I apologize to begin publishing this new series after bringing up some anticipation. I couldn’t do it earlier, really.
One way to embroider drawn threads is doing overcasting. I began doing this overcast isolated bars* ( it can be done as a overcast bars in a zig-zag line*) without hem stitching the edges. Only the two bar edges are done with buttonhole stitch made with thread machine.
*i’ve used the names from Th.Dillmond book “Drawn Thread Work” ..
I begin – on the back side – with a common thin needle, but sometimes a little pliers would help; then you can change to a tapestry needle or turn your needle. (I confess: I’ve made the pictures with hoop but I don’t use it for doing this embellishment)
I want to draw your attention to the entry of the needle and I think these more magnified photos, show best what I want to.
1 – the embroidery thread comes up between the fabric threads – this is important not to distort the grid
2 and 3 – the fabric threads are whipped with embroidery thread,
4 and 5 – on the other side the embroidery thread has to come up again between the former bunch and the fabric thread
6 – and so till the bar end et voilá!
