Schwalm Whitework IV (update)

The Swchwalm Whitework comes from Basic Principles of Schwalm Whitework by Luzine Happel. I began this project a while ago, but with the wrong linen.
I began again with proper linen, thanks to Luzine. I have to say that embroidery goes much faster now.
Last weeks I haven’t worked too much because I’m doing other projects. I’ve also decided the filling stitches will be made at the end. I must practise before starting the final project since I’ve never made any of the filling stitches.
I have managed to get through almost all the steps on two sides of the square (but the filling stitches).

I’ve only used the hoop to satin stitching the leaves. The coral stitches, buttonhole scallops and chain stitches were made in hand! This is awful to say for most of the embroiderers but it’s the truth – I can’t manage the hoop when embroidering those stitches.
On the other hand I think important the hoop for satin and long and short stitches. Here the hoop makes the difference.
BUT despite the hoop I have to practice satin stitch a lot , poor me!
(look at those leaves and try to imagine how they were without hoop)

And now I’m leaving to the country. Sunday we’ll have our youngest grandaughter’s birthday party.
Have a great weekend!

  1. Wow, Meri!! I can't believe how far you've come on this. You put me to shame!!!!!! Mine hasn't progressed at all since last posting, I think. This is beautiful – perfectly done!

  2. Dear Méri, your Schwalm is coming out beautiful, using a hoop or not. Actually, it's amazing how you manage to do it without a hoop and the fabric's still in shape. Even using a hoop I couldn't avoid letting it move – with disastrous results to my long and short stitches. Ah, well… first times are just about that, aren't they? I hope you enjoyed the party! :)

  3. Very elegant Meri! Such heirlooms you are creating.
